It is now 3:42 pm, and Navajo Council Law & Order Committee Chairwoman Eugenia Charles-Newton is questioning the $1.2 BILLION legislation from Prez Nez & Vice Prez Lizer, which is for Infrastructure & HARSHIP ASSISTANCE. Charles-Newton said that Nez & Lizer are Proposing to spend about $2 MILLION of $1.2 BILLION for HARDSHP ASSISTANCE, which equals to $600 per Dine’!!!!!! She noted that the ONLY WAY to Increase $600 is for the Council to Waive language in Navajo Council Resolution CJY 41-21 to give more to the People than $600 each. Charles-Newton says to Council, “We need to give More to the People cuz of Inflations and we waited NINE MONTHS to spend $2 BILLION ARPA funds. We wasted a year. I don’t know why we waited NINE MONTHS for this legislation. I asked for legislation to Spend ARPA Funds months ago & no draft legisltion for my request or other requests from other Council delegates to spend the $2 BILLION ARPA funds. What’s the Hold Up?
It is now 3:55 pm, 12.16.21, Law & Order Committee Chairwoman Charles-Newton tells Council Naabikiyati Committee that a woman with Cancer informed her that she went to her chapter and asked to have her home’s broken windows replaced for $4,000. The Chapter Denied her Assistance.
CORRECTION: Charles-Newton said that it’s a reality that Some Chapters select only people that they want to help.
“Our People need Help now,” she says.
It is now 4:11 pm, 12.16.21, and Navajo Council Delegate Kee Allen Begay says he asked for Legislation to be Drafted by the Council’s Office of the Chief Legislative Counsel to spend portions of the $2 BILLION ARPA Funds, and he’s still waiting. He notes that the Hold Up of legislation to spend the $2 BILLION to be Drafted by attorneys makes it appear that the Council is Sitting on the $2 BILLION ARPA Funds.
