Navajo Nation Office of the President & Vice President Press Release: 177 new cases and no deaths related to COVID-19 reported

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – On Thursday, July 7, 2022, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 177 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and no deaths. The total number of deaths remains 1,811. 555,721 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The overall total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 57,851, including 55 delayed reported cases. A new case is defined as a positive test within the last 72-hours. Some cases are due to delayed reporting from the states. Any positive tests from beyond the last 72-hours are considered delayed.

The Navajo Nation remains in “yellow status,” in accordance with Public Health Emergency Order No. 2022-004 available online at: https://www.ndoh.navajo-nsn.gov/COVID-19. 

“The Omicron BA.5 subvariant is now the dominant strain of COVID-19 in the United States and we are seeing more of these cases here on the Navajo Nation. This subvariant is more transmissible and symptoms are typically cold-like symptoms including sore throat, sneezing, and runny noses. If you are sick or have symptoms related to COVID-19, please stay home and do not go to your work place or to public areas. It’s crucial that if you are sick you isolate yourself and make a plan to get tested as soon as possible,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.

Health care facilities on the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines. If you would like to receive one of the COVID-19 vaccines, please contact your health care provider and schedule an appointment.

“We have to remain strong through prayer and by supporting one another. Please continue to inform your elders and encourage them to protect themselves against COVID-19. We all have to do our part. Please continue to take precautions and pray for our people,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
