I was at SW Incident Managment Team 3 daily morning update on Assayii Lake Fire and the fire is at 65 percent confinement. I’ll have video and more info later. By the way Navajo Nation President Shelly’s mouthpiece, Rick Abasta, issued a press release yesterday about all the “rumors” circulating on FaceBook about the tribal emergency center collecting all donations from Assayii Lake Fire shelters, including Naschitti, N.M., Sheep Springs, N.M., and Shiprock, N.M.
Abasta stated in his PRESS RELEASE, “Recent media accounts about donations from the Asaayii Lake Fire being taken without cause are untrue. These sensationalized news stories have been based on Facebook posts from displaced residents affected by the Asaayii Lake Fire.”
He stated, “An obvious outlet for many to vent these frustrations have been social media sites such as Facebook, where they have let loose a litany of diatribes and blame on the Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly and the Department of Emergency Management.”
Abasta noted, “These have included several death threats.’
And for those with great interest in the Glen Canyon Dam and Antelope Point, the tribal Legislative Branch has electronically posted proposed LEGISLATION 0157-14: An Action Relating to Resources and Development, Budget And Finance and Naa’bik’iyati’ Committees; Approving the Memoradum of Agreement Between the Navajo Nation and the National Park Service to Implement a Commercial Permit Program for Antelope Lake, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.
It was posted today, June 23, 2014, at 11:55 p.m., which means that the five-day comment period has started today and ends on June 28, 2014. It’ll be ready for Navajo Council committee action on June 28, 2014, and according to the proposed legislation, it doesn’t need approval Council approval. The committees that it will go before are Resources & Development Committee, Budget and Finance Committee and Naabik’iyati Committee.
