Dine’ Same Sex Marriage legislation on Naabik’iyati Committee agenda, 10 am, 11.10.22

Greetings Relatives/Frens/Humans, the Navajo Council Naabik’iyati Committee is meeting today, 11.10.22. The Naabik’iyati Committee recommends legislation to the Navajo Council. There is no proposed legislation for the Navajo Council to vote in a new speaker to replace Speaker Seth Damon, who announced he was resigning immediately late Friday 11.4.22 afternoon for appearing in public intoxicated to the point where he was unconscienciousness or passed out in front of a Las Vegas casino slot machine during the National Indian Rodeo Finals, from Oct. 18 to 22, 2022, But on Tuesday, the Navajo Council issued a press release announcing that Damon would remain as speaker until the Navajo Council votes in a new speaker. Damon remains as speaker but only to appoint speaker pro tems to serve for one week.

Damon appointed Health, Education & Human Services Committee Committee Chairman Daniel Tso as speaker pro tem for five days on Nov. 7. And then Damon will appoint another committee chairpersons to seek for one week.

10:50 am, 11.10.22, Law & Order Committee Chairwoman Eugenia Charles-Newton pats herself & Navajo Council on their Back for basically what COVID-19 did, which was to FORCE the Navajo Govt – Navajo Council, Prez, Vice Prez – to FINALLY make the Dine’ People’s govt Accessible to them via Zoom, Facebook, YouTube, Teleconference. And it’s not Complete Access!! Where are ALL the DOCUMENTS/REPORRTS, especially FINANCIAL REPORT that go before All the Standing Committees/Leadership Meetings/Caucuses/Navajo Council.. Why haven’t the meetings between Prez Nez/VIP Lizer and Division Directors been OPEN via Social Media/Zoom/Teleconference to the Navajo People, especially since the Prez & VP are responsible for assuring that All their politically appointed Division Directors are DELIVERING SERVICES to the Dine’ People.

10:50, 11.10.22, Resources & Development Committee member Mark Freeland announces to Naabik’iyati Committee, which is meeting today, 11.10.22, that a KOREAN WAR Veteran from the chapters he represents got Running Water. Freeland also asks What does that say about the Navajo Govt? NOTE – My answer, It says that Nez, Lizer, the Navajo Council continue to take YEARS to DELIVER SERVICES!!!! When was the Korean War? When did it end?
National Geographic reported, “On June 27, 1950, U.S. President Harry Truman announced support for South Korea in repelling an invasion by North Korea, entering the U.S. in the Korean War. The Korean War ended three years later, with millions of casualties. The war ended with virtually no change in the border. The Korean Peninsula is still divided, with military personnel from both North and South Korea occupying the demilitarized zone (DMZ).”
NOTE – And so, RDC member Mark Freeland, the Korean War ended 69 years ago and so it’s taken the Navajo Govt or Navajo Council, Prez, Vice Prez, 69 years for the Navajo Govt (Navajo Council, Prez, Vice Prez) to bring Running Water to one of our Dine’ Korean War Veteran.

11:24 am, 11.10.22, Resources & Development Committee member Wilson Stewart Jr. asks the Naabik’iyati to Remove or Defer his Legislation 0109-22 from today’s, 11.10.22, Naabi Proposed Agenda.

12:55 pm, 11.19.22, Resources & Development Committee chairman Rickie Nez, a Christian preacher, repeatedly mentions the Bible in his statement to the Naabik’iyati regarding Legislation 0108-22, which seeks Navajo Council approval to amend the Dine’ Marriage Act to Recognize all Marriages, including Same Sex Marriages. Nez recommends a Vote by the Dine’ people on Recognizing Marriage between Same Sex Couples.

1 pm, 11.10.22, Navajo Council Delegate Herman Daniels Jr. also Afraid to Make a Decision/Vote on Legislation 0108-22, Same Sex Marriage. Daniels, like Resources & Development Committee chairman Rickie Nez, recommends that the Dine’ People vote on 0108-22.

The HEHS Committee vote on 0108-22 was 1 in favor, 2 opposed. The one HEHS Committee member who voted to support Same Sex Marriage was HEHS committee member Charlaine Tso.

1:30 pm, 11.10.22, Budget & Finance Committee member Elmer Begay really questioning Referendum. Speaker Pro Tem Daniel Tso asks Chief Legislative Counsel Dana Bobroff about amending Same Sex Marriage to include Referendum Vote instead of a Vote by the Navajo Council. Bobroff said that amendment would Completely change 0108-22 and so a New Same Sex Marriage Legislation would be Required. Speaker Pro Tem Daniel Tso reminds Naabik’iyati that no matter what the Naabi votes, approve or disapprove, 0108-22 continue to Navajo Council, where it requires 16 Yes Votes for approval by the Navajo Council.

1:38 pm, 11.10.22, Navajo Council Delegate Vince James reminds the Naabik’iyati that as they debate Legislation 0108-22, Same Sex Marriage Act, they are talking about Dine’ children, who have parents, family that love them.

2 pm, 11.10.22, Law & Order Committee chairwoman Eugenia Charles-Newton tells Naabik’iyati Committee that Legislation 0108-22 Same Sex Marriage is about Human Rights. She says that if those Council Delegates that are arguing that Dine’ Tradition opposes Same Sex Marriage then those Delegates should Write Into Dine’ Marriage Act those Traditions that Require the Husband to live with his Wife at her home and when the Marriage ends, the Husband leaves with his Saddle/Whatever he brought to Marriage at Time of Wedding. This is not about religion. This Legislation is about Human Rights. The right to be married, to be at the hospital bedside of their spouse, to legally adopt, to legally share property, etc. There is nothing in Legislation 0108-22 that Forces Churches and traditional practitioners to conduct Same Sex Marriages. This is about Protecting our Dine’ Children, Dine’ People, not about Supporting the LGBTQ+ community. We already recognize common law marriages and if they want to be at the bedside of their common law spouse that is legally allowed.

3:08 pm, 11.10.22, Naabik’iyati votes 10 in favor, 9 opposed on Legislation 0108-22, Same Sex Marriage with No Amendments. 0108-22 moves to the Navajo Council, where it requires majority vote to approve it.
