The HEHS Committee voted 4 in favor, zero opposed on Legislation 0144-20, which Navajo Council Delegate Amber Kanazbah Crotty is sponsoring. Legislation 0144-20 now goes before Budget & Finance Committee, the Resources & Development Committee, Naabik’iyati Committee, and to Navajo Council. REMEMBER, if Council approves 0144-20, it goes before Prez Nez, who has Presidential Line-tem VETO Power that the People voted for…And yes, this means the People can vote to temporarily or permanently remove the Presidential Line-Item Veto Authority. And We, the People, do not have to give a REASON. Every single one of our Elected Officials are our Public Servants. Is it TIME to Take Back our Navajo Nation government?!
Navajo Council Delegate Amber Kanazbah Crotty, who is sponsoring Legislation 0144-20, which is the funding of water lines, power lines, and broadband, informed the Health, Education & Human Services Committee, “We have 160 more days to approve spending plans and get the Navajo Nation government massive wheels rolling to procure materials, hire workers and provide relief to our People. We need to do that.
HEHS COMMITTEE VICE CHAIRMAN CARL SLATER announced that Eastern Agency meeting scheduled tomorrow, 7.7.20, to discuss proposed Water Projects.
Health, Education & Human Services Committee member/Council Delegate Paul Begay, who represents chapters of Coppermine, K’aibii’to, LeChee, Tonalea/Red Lake, and Bodaway/Gap, said during the HEHS debate on Water Projects in Legislation 0144-20: COVID-19 that money should go directly to fund chapters. Chapter officials know where money needs to go for the most needed community water projects. That is the best and fastest way to spend this COVID-19 money. Give it to the chapters. We have very smart local government officials and I have full confidence that they will account for every penny, and they will follow guidelines of US Treasury and BIA.
I’m was at Coppermine, which has water project. And later today, going to another chapter. I cannot believe the frustration of people. They are drained and fatigued with what happened again to $55 million. (On July 4, Prez Nez line item vetoed $55M approved for 110 chapters by Navajo Nation Council.) We need to get the money to the chapters. Hopefully, we can sit down with Three Branch Chiefs so they understand what the people need.
Time is of the essence. Time is not on our side.”
