Greetings Relatives/Frens/Humans, the 25th Navajo Nation Council recessed day 4 of their annual five-day Summer Session at about 6 p.m., July 20, 2023. And about 5:35 p.m., July 20, 2023, I received an email a couple of EMERGENCY Legislation. One of the EMERGENCY Legislation is EMERGENCY Legislation 056-23, the Revived purchase of the Goulding’s Monument Valley Lodge & Tours property for more then $50 million.
On Day 2, June 18, 2023, of the Navajo Council Summer Session, the Navajo Council voted 15 in favor, 4 opposed on Legislation 0025-23, which required 16 green votes for the Navajo Council to buy the Goulding’s Monument Valley Lodge and Tours, Monument Valley, Utah.
Navajo Nation Council Delegate Cherilyn Yazzie was among the four Navajo Council Delegates to red on the purchase of the Goulding’s Lodge because the owner of the Goulding’s Lodge declined to have an Inspection Report done on the Goulding’s Lodge. Yazzie asked for a Building Inspection Report after reading the July 17, 2023, report on the Navajo Nation Washington, D.C., office, which the Council voted to accept on July 17, 2023.
According to the Navajo Nation Washington, D.C., report, a Building Inspection Report was not done before the Navajo Council purchased the Washington, D.C., property for $4.8 million in February 2021. On May 31, 2022, a “home inspection was completed by a certified home inspector,” which showed visibly compromised roof structure; deteriorated siding and sheathing; incorrectly wired outlets; chimmy deterioration in the attic; damaged and corroded boiler; incorrect HVAC system temperate differential; systemic insulation and ventilation evaluation needed; exterior drainage routed through an interior crawlspace; missing attic dehumidification system; systemic structural evaluation; excessive foundation movement; atypical supplemental structrual support design, and “traces have been found in the roof and attics.”
Ahe’hee to the Navajo Nation Washington, D.C., Executive Director Justin Ahasteen for his excellent 6-page report. Ahasteen noted, “The urgency of this matter warrants immediate attention to ensure the safety and structural integrity of this significant property.”
The file for EMERGENCY Legislation 0156-23 and Legislation 0025-23 are both more than 1,000 pages. Sorry. I tried and tried to attach 0156-23 and 0025-23.
