Groups and individuals that are concerned about the “imminent threats from uranium mining” are schedule to go before the Navajo Council’s Health, Education and Human Services Committee tomorrow, April 2, 2014, at 10 a.m. in the north conference room of the Navajo Council chamber in Window Rock, Ariz.
According to the HEHS Committee’s proposed AGENDA, the groups and individuals that are listed to make public comment to the committee are Eastern Navajo Dine’ Against Uranium Mining, the Sierra Club, Dine’ No Nukes, Becenti Chapter Vice President Jonathan Perry and Navajo Council Delegate Danny Simpson.
Other reports listed on the HEHS Committee’s proposed agenda include an emergency 911 system report from Navajo Telecommunication Regulatory Office Director Brian Tagaban, a “report from Navajo Nation Department of Dine’ Education as to its position since Department of Superintendent Tah,” which will be presented by Acting Superintendent of Schools Tim Benally, and a report on the Wide Ruins Community grant from the Navajo Nation Office of the President and Vice President Chief of Staff Arbin Mitchell.
According to the HEHS Committee’s proposed agenda, there is no legislation going before the committee.
The Committee is scheduled to consider an April 14 to 18, 2014, work session with the Navajo Nation Department of Self Reliance on Legislation 0041-140041-14: Approving the Navajo Nation Division of Social Services Program for Self Reliance Public Law 93-638 Financial Assistance Programs Policy Manual.
They will also consider attending the Association of Navajo Community Controlled School Board, Inc., 2014 annual Spring conference at the Sheraton Hotel in uptown Albuquerque, N.M., on April 24 and 25, 2014, and the Expanding Your School and Home Horizons II conference, at the Marriott Courtyard in Farmington, N.M., on May 1 and 2, 2014.
