Navajo activists, environmentalists could challenge Council decision over natural resources

HERE AT NAVAJO COUNCIL WHERE I’M HEARING MORE AND MORE ANXIETY FROM COUNCIL DELEGATES WHO ARE FINDING IT HARD TO EMPOWER THE NAVAJO PEOPLE.

DELEGATE LORENZO CURLEY
are we putting policy to people? or are we allowing people to create a right? The right for People to govern is already recognized in other parts of Navajo law. Are we affirming that? If so then this is a policy question. Or is this about additional right to participate? And I think that is what Delegate Phelps asking. A group out there can construe this for them to say, we have inherent right to decide a natural resource question. We shud have that say. It’s opening the door for the Navajo activists, environmentalist to block Council’s decisions over natural resources.
