Here at Navajo Nation Council chambers in Window Rock, Ariz., where the Council is waiting for quorum to begin their special session today, which was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. It is now 11:16 am.
The Council’s proposed agenda begins with a Report on the 2014 Navajo Nation General Election by legislative attorney Ron Haven, followed by another Report, which is the pending legislation for the election qualification of the Office of the President, Speaker, Council delegates. Delegates Leonard Tsosie and attorney Haven are scheduled to present the Report on pending legislation 0218-14, which would remove the Navajo language fluency requiement for presidential candidates and the optional Navajo language requirement for other elected officials, including Council delegates.
It’s now 11:27 pm and Speaker Pro Temp LoRenzo Bates has called on the delegates to hit their attendence button. There are 12 delegates on the floor and with Bates, the Council has 13, which is a quorum.
