Navajo Council Naabik’iyati Committee recommends Referendum to Council

Navajo Council Naabik’iyati Committee having interesting and heated debate over LEGISLATION 0123-14, which calls for the Council to approve a referendum for the Navajo people to vote on amending on Navajo law that would replace the Navajo Council with the Navajo people regarding who would be the governing body of the Navajo Nation.

DELEGATE RUSSELL BEGAYE
The council is where the Navajo people voice themselves, not the President’s Office. And that occurred with proposed Navajo Hopi Little Colorado River Water Settlement, the return of Fort Wingate land to the Navajo Nation, and the purchase of BHP Coal Mine.

The council brings the people to the table.

And the people have no voice in the Judicial Branch/Courts.

VOTE IS 9 IN FAVOR, 3 OPPOSED ON 0123-14 SO 0123-14 MOVES TO COUNCIL SUMMER SESSION WHICH BEGINS ON JULY 21.
