NAVAJO NATION COUNCIL IN SPECIAL SESSION TO FINISH UP THEIR MAY 30, 2014, AGENDA. THE COUNCIL DIDN’T FINISH THEIR MAY 30, 2014, BECAUSE THEY LOST A QUORUM. THERE ARE THREE PIECES OF LEGISLATION ON TODAY’S AGENDA.

There were key people in 2006 with a strong voice “to get it on with the federal government.” Speaker Johnny Naize established a Task Force and as a result of that team negotiating and arguing with U.S., the result was a $554 million settlement.

DELEGATE LORENZO CURLEY makes a presentation to former Council Delegate Ervin Keeswood, who tells the Council that the next challenge is the decision on what to do with the $554 million settlement. Keeswood was the sponsor of legislation, HISTORIC MISMANGAGEMENT TRUST FUND LITIGATION.

Unfortunately the $2 billion that was the initial amount that the Navajo Nation Council filed the lawsuit against the U.S. for decades and decades, prossibly since 1940s, Call to 110 chapters to meet with me to talk about Investments of Navajo Nation July 18, 2014, at Dine’ College, Tsaile, Ariz. But I do thank former Delegate Keeswood. We had some very fierce debates involving Keeswood.

Now that there is $554 million, we need to aware that every dollar that comes to tribe is subject to tribal law and if Council feels that tribal laws need to be changed before $554 million arrives will be discussed at next Naabik’iyti Committee meeting on June 13, 2014. It will be major task on how those dollars will be invested and this is my thought and up for suggestions is creating an Investment Committee to look at alternatives thru legislation and by task force similar to task force created by Naize to negotiate settlemment of lawsuit against U.S. for mismanagement of Navajo trust funds. The clock is ticking on 120 days.
