Navajo Council Special Session, 10 am, 2.2.23 & Naabik’yati Committee, 10 am, 2.2.23 – Appointments to Standing Committees

Greetings Relatives/Frens/Humans, what a day yesterday was. SMH. But I always remain hopefully, and so I am positive that the Sound in the Navajo Nation Council chambers will no longer be garbled and will be loud enough for we, the People, who took the time to travel to the Navajo Nation Council chambers in Window Rock, Ariz., to attend a Navajo govt-funded meetings being held in the Navajo Council chambers, which is a female hogan.

The Navajo Council has scheduled a one-day special session at 2 p.m., Thursday, 2.2.23 to debate and take action on Legislation 0005-23, which confirms Speaker Crystalyne Curley’s appointment of Navajo Council delegates to the Council’s four standng committee: the Budget and Finance, the Law and Order Committee, the Resources and Development Committee, and the Health, Education and Human Services Committee.

Speaker Crystalyne Curley is the sponsor of Legislation 0005-23.

But before Legislation 0005-23 is eligible to go before the Navajo Council, it is mandated to go before the Naabik’iyati Committee, which consists of the four standing committees and provides for Naabik’iyati Committee members to debate without a five-minute time limit or any time limit. The Council has a five-minute debate limit for each delegate.

The Naabik’iyati Committee is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., and since there is a scheduled Navajo Council special session that starts at 2 p.m., the Naabik’iyati must adjourn before 2 p.m.

The proposed 2.2.23 Naabi agenda has a single item, Legislation 0005-23, but the Naabik’iyati Committee can amend its agenda proposed by adding or even deleting agenda items.

Yesterday, the Navajo Council Naabik’iyati Committee held a work session on the $2.1B in American Rescue Plan Act aid received by the Navajo Nation government. According to the Naabik’iyati agenda, which the Navajo Council posted on its webpage, https://www.navajonationcouncil.org/meetings/, the work session would be held virtually via zoom and at the Navajo Council chambers in Window Rock, Ariz. But if you attended the Naabi meeting at the Navajo Council chambers, you were unable to listen to the work session because the Sound was garbled and at a low volume.

I asked the Navajo Nation Legislative Branch IT department why the Sound was so garbled, and I was informed that if the Public Sound System was turned on while the Naabik’yati was using zoom for its work session, the entire system would crash. The IT also added that the sound was turned off because it was only a work session. GOOD GRIEF
