Ya’at’eeh Relatives/Frens/Humans, the Navajo Hopi Land Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 a.m., Oct. 5, 2023, in the Navajo Nation Council Budget & Finance Committee meeting room in Window Rock, Arizona. If you are unable to attend in-person, the Navajo Hopi Land Commission proposed has Call-In information to attend the NHLC meeting vitually.
According to the proposed NHLC agenda, the NHLC is scheduled to hear from newly appointed Navajo Hopi Land Commission Office Director Sarah Slim, who had been serving as Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren’s staff assistant. President Nygren appointed Slim to be NHLC Office director to replace interim NHLC Office Director Raymond Maxx. Nygren appointed Maxx, a former Navajo Nation Council delegate, to be the NHLC director when Nygren took office.
11:23 pm, 10.4.23, I checked President Nygren’s FB page & there’s no Press Release about why Nygren decided to replace Maxx with Slim.
Nygren also replaced Navajo Nation Division of Community Development director with Arbin Mitchell, who was serving as Nygren’s staff assistant. Before joining Nygren’s staff, Mitchell was a Navajo Nation Election Board member, who didn’t seek re-election because he campaigned to be a Navajo Council delegate. Mitchell has also served as Navajo Division of Community Director and so it will be interesting to see what he does as community development director. The Division of Community Development is where the Navajo Nation’s 110 chapters or local governments are located.
In July, Nygren announced that Kim Russell was his new Navajo Nation Division of Health director. Russell is the third DOH director appointed by Nygren.
