It is now 3:38 pm, 10.13.21, and Navajo Council Speaker Seth Damon stammering as he tells Law & Order Committee Chairwoman Eugenia Charles-Newton that he will GIVE NEZ& LZIER and their DIVISION DIRECTORS MORE TIME TO ANSWER QUESTIONS REGARDING WHERE THEY SPENT MILLIONS IN DONATIONS DOLLARS.
Charles-Newton Called for INVESTIGATION of Navajo Dept of Emergency Management, Navajo Dept of Justice, Navajo Division of Health; Navajo Health Command Center; Navajo Division of Community Development regarding DONATIONS made to the Navajo People, via Navajo Nation govt, nez&lizer, council since COVID-19 arrived on the Navajo Nation in 2019.
Damon’s obvious reluctance in SUPPORTING the call for an INVESTIGATION by Charles-Newton of the nez-lizer administration regarding millions in donations makes me Wonder if Damon already Knows How Donations made to nez&lizer were used, but he’s not saying and he doesn’t want anyone else, especially the Navajo People, to know.
And so Charles-Newton Stand for INVESTIGATION/PUBLIC INFORAMTION regarding MILLIONS of DOLLARS in COVID-19 RELIEF AID DONATIONS for COVID relief hit the DAMON WALL which was supported by most of the Naabik’iayti Committee, as reflected in their vote to ACCEPT the CONTROLLER’S DONATION REPORT of 16 in favor, 4 opposed.
The UNOFFICIAL Naabik’iyati Vote of 16 in favor, 4 opposed on Accepting Controller’s Report on Donations by General Accounting Manager Robert Willie is:
Elmer Begay Green; Kee Allen Begay Green; Paul Begay Green; Nathaniel Brown Green; Eugenia Charles-Newton Red; Amber Kanazbah Crotty NoVote; Herman Daniels Jr. Red; Mark Freeland Green; Pernell Halona Green; Jamie Henio Green; Vince James Red; Rickie Nez Green; Carl Slater Green; Raymond Smith Jr. Green; Wilson Stewart Jr. Green; Charlaine Tso NoVote; Daniel Tso Red; Otto Tso Green; Eugene Tso NoVote; Thomas Walker Jr. Green; Edison Wauneka Green; Edmund Yazzie Green; Jimmy Yellowhair Green.
It is now 3:30 pm, 10.13.21, and the Naabik’iyati continues Debating Donation Report by Office of the Controller General Accouting Manager Robert Willie, instead of Acting Controller Elizabeth Begay.
COUNCIL DELEGATE NATHANIEL BROWN
Dine’ people deeply impacted. Lost jobs. Got COVID & still recovering. Some on verge of Eviction from rental apartments and homes. They were directly impacted. How can we get information?
The Donation Balance of $6m from office of prez nez & vp lizer is Not enough for 400,000 Dine’ people, cuz not enough.
Close to $3M for housing. We need info from CHR, Senior centers, etc for how our People are doing. I want to use funds for People. I’ve talked with some Donors and they donated to help people directly impacted by COVID.
OMG!! SMH!! It is now October 2021. COVD-19 hit in March 2019. And Navajo Council still TALKING about how to HELP the people directly impacted by COVID & Where Did ALL the DONATIONS Go?!
Brown has the Right Idea but now he wants a Day Long Work Session with ALL THE PROGRAM DIRCTORS in Executive Branch on HOW TO HELP WE, THE PEOPLE. And now he’s recommending criteria on who would qualify for COVID relief aid. But aren’t we, the People, paying nez&lizzer, their division directors, who have doctorate degrees, to HELP THE PEOPLE with COVID relief aid, even before COVID!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is now 2:59 pm, 10.13.21
Update Report to Naabik’iyati Committee from the Navajo Nation Office of the Controller on the Distribution of CARES Act Donations and the Allocation of Donated Funds. Report by Ms. Elizabeth Begay, Acting Controller and OOC Staff before Naabik’iyati Committee.
But acting Controller Begaye is not doing Report. Its Robert Willie, general accounting manager. If this was Controller Pearline Kirk, the Naabik’iyati Committee, especially delegates Jimmy Yellowhair, Raymond Smith, Pernall Halona, Jamie Henio, Otto Tso, etc would be Jumping Up & Down and Demanding that The Controller, not anyone else, Make Report.
Law & Order Committee Chairwoman Eugenia Charles-Newton noted that Robert Willie’s report was the SAME REPORT given by Acting Controller Elizabeth Begaye in Summer Session when Begay reported that she had not received all info on Donations.
Charles-Newton said the Controller’s Report lacks info on thousands of dollars in travel, how were contracts awarded; who are consultants; and why was capital outlay cost paid for by donations?
Are we going to be able to see breakdown? Charles-Newton asks.
Why was about $44,000 in Donations was used for TRAVEL? Thee was Navajo Office of Prez & Vice Prez GoFundMe Account and where are documents for how funds used? Was Navajo Nation advertising that we need assistance. I remember Delegate Eugene Tso on CNN and speaking with a lot of emotion about the COVID-19 emergency needs of communities he represents. We need documents that show HOW the DONATIONS from Individuals/Organizations were used for the Dine’ People emergency COVID-19 relief aid. A lot of our Dine’ People didn’t receive EMERGENCY COVID-19 RELIEF AID.
Charles-Newton recommends that the NAVAJO NATION FINAL COMPREHENSIVE DONATION REPORT be sent to all DONORS so they know whether their DONATIONS were used in the way that they wanted them used.
It is now 2:20 pm, 10.13.21, and Budget & Finance Committee Chairman Jamie Henio says no from Navajo Housing Authority can present to Naabi because they are ALL in COVID-19 Quarantine for TEN DAYS.
Council Delegate Herman Daniels Jr. asked for Directive to NVA Director Zweirlein to work with NHA on temporarily providing vacant houses to Unsheltered Dine’ Veterans.
It is now 2:09 pm, 10.13.21, and Navajo Council Delegate Herman Daniels Jr. is offering Directive by Naabik’iyati to Navajo VA Director Zweirlein to work with Navajo Housing Authority on providing Housing to Veterans. There are vacant NHA homes that veterans can temporarily live in during winter months, Daniels said. And to waive temporarily waive rent.
It is now 2 pm, 10.13.21, Naabik’iyati Committee Vote on Accepting Navajo Veterans Administration Director Zweirlein’s Report on Veterans’ Housing, 14 in favor, 5 opposed, 6 not voting.
Elmer Begay Green, Kee Allen Begay Red; Paul Begay Green; Nathaniel Brown Green; Eugenia Charles-Newton Red; Amber Kanazbah Crotty NoVote; Herman Daniels Jr. Red; Mark Freeland Green; Pernell Halona Green; Jamie Henio Green; Vince James Red; Rickie Nez Green; Raymond Smith Jr. Green; Wilson Stewart Jr. Green; Charlaine Tso NoVote; Daniel Tso NoVote; Eugene Tso Red; Otto Tso Green; Thomas Walker Jr. Green; Edison Wauneka Green; Edmund Yazzie NoVote; Jimmy Yellowhair Green.
It is now 1:41 pm, 10.13.21 and Navajo Veterans Aadministration DIRECTOR ZWEIRLEAIN is telling Naabik’iyati:
When I became director, summer 2018, housing pgm shut down and I told staff to stop giving housing applications. Last week, found out that NVA western agency handing out outdated housing applications which created problem.
There is no compute list of housing. We use hard copies and veterans will get hard copy. Not perfect process and we will consult with veterans on process.
Took NVA housing polices almost 2 years to finalize, but went into legislative process. Good, bad or indifferent, but took NVA 22 months to follow Navajo law and get veterans housing up and running.
End result is pgm up and running. Unfortunate in year three and used as political capital and that is the way cards fell. No housing in 2019 cuz funds reverted to Hardship Assistance.
This guy, Zweirlein, sure does know how to Double Talk…but I have learned to translate Double Talk after 34 years of news coverage on Navajo Nation. Yup, no veterans housing in 2019. And Yup, funds appropriated by Council to NVA for housing reverted to Hardship Assistance. But what you left out, Zweirlein, is that YOU DID NOT SPEND THE HOUSING FUNDS and that why they reverted to HARDSHIP ASSISTANCE.
It is now 1:23 pm, 10.13.21, and Navajo Council Delegate VINCE JAMES is asking NVA director Zweirlein about Veterans Housing:
James says more than 2 yrs agao, applications for housing was not a document put into system and so when follow up, there is no evidence to show status of housing application. But outside Navajo rez, they show u on screen, visits and requests. Why doesn’t NVA have similar system?
Veterans informed him they are told to update application or submit another application which they feel puts them down lower on housing application waiting list.
I am sending the list of veterans names. Veterans repeatedly told to update or complete housing applications. Does this move veterans to bottom of list? Do you have information on what veterans have submitted to NVA?
Veterans using hearing aides have special request to have NVA give them a hard copy of what they have submitted to NVA.
Council Delegate OTTO TSO says the decision regarding the veterans that gets first home is a decision of NVA, Prez Nez, VP lizer. But he says the Council has appropriated veterans housing funds past three years of nez-lizer administration and NO VETERANS HOME. He adds that he hopes nez&lizer didn’t use Veterans for CAMPAIGN VOTES….FR Otto?! LOL LOL LOL LOL
It is now 1 pm, 10.13.21, and Navajo Council Nabik’iyati continues hearing Update Veterans Report from NVA director Zweirlein.
Law & Order Committee Chairwoman Eugeneia Charles-Newton:
How was western agency selected for first home built for a veterans? We know Navajo Prez Nez is from western agency. Was that the reason? Please share process on how first home for veterans is built in western agency.
NVA Director Zweirlein says Western Agency selected cuz area of former Bennett Freeze Area. Earlier Zweirlein said veteran selected for new home in western agency was selected “RAMDOMLY”. Interesting …LOL LOL LOL LOL
Navajo Council Delegate Eugene Tso tells Zweirlein that he submitted his Housing Applicaton in the 1980s. Have you wound it, Tso asekd. Do you see Navajo veterns wandering around? These are ones that Need Homes. They don’t have transportation. Are there any NVA staff finding veterans who have severe PTSD and helping them?
It is now 12:45 pm, 10.13.21, and I’m wondering Why the Naabik’iyati Committee is not asking Navajo Veterans Administration Director Zweirlein about whether having HIS WIFE on the Navajo Nation Veterans Advisory Council is a CONFLICT OF INTEREST?!
It is now 12:27 pm,10.13.21, and Naabik’iyati is hearing Update Report from the Office of the President and Vice-President and the Veterans Administration regarding Veterans Housing. Report by James Zweirlein, Division Director and OPVP Staff
It is now 12:15 pm, 10.13.21, and Navajo Nation Attorney General Doreen McPaul is having a Difficult Time explaining to Naabik’iyati why she wants TO POSTPONE this very Important Report on MMDR.
Report from the Navajo Nation Department of Justice Regarding the number of Federally Declined Cases within the past ten (10) years pertaining to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons and Domestic Violence within the Navajo Nation, as well as, how the Navajo Nation Prosecutes Declined Cases. Report by Doreen McPaul, Attorney General and Vernon Jackson, Acting Chief Prosecutor
Council Delegate Kee Allen Begay is saying that if Postpone then call for an Entire Day to address McPaul’s Report and to Now Ask for State Attorney Generals, FBI, US Dept of Justice to attend Day Long Meeting on MMDR. The Naabik’iyati also needs to ask McPaul, State Attorney Generals, FBI, US Dept of Justice for the FEDERAL WARRANTS that were used to Terrorize Dine’ Farmers & Families in their Search for Hemp & Marijuana Plants in the Shiprock, NM area. I asked for COPIES of the FEDEAL SEARCH WARRANTS & I’m still WAITING. The Dine’ Farmers & Families were NEVER GIVEN Federal Seach Warrants.
It is now 12:12 pm, 10.13.21, and someone forgot to Contact De. Calderone and so the Report to the Navajo Nation Council Naabik’iyati Committee from Diné Bá’ádeite’į on their Organization’s Efforts to Distribute Fire Wood to the Navajo People during the COVID-19 Pandemic and their Plans for Future Distributions. Report by Dr. Sophina Calderone has been postponed. SMH…this Report on FIRE WOOD is an EMERGENCY ISSUE. it is FREEZING COLD here on the Navajo Rez!!!!
It is now 11:46 am, 10.13.21, and the Naabik’iyati Committee does Not Know how to handle a Request from a University of Ohio botanist to Give a NEW SPECIES of PLANT a Dine’ name. Sounds Awesome? Nope because there are Dine’ names already for Plants and the Dine’ name describes the Plant & its Use & its Origin History. I get the feeling that this Request comes from all the Media Hoopla over NASA Giving Dine’ Names to items on Mars which was WRONG, WRONG. Our Language is the Voice of the Sacred Holy Begins and Must be Used in the Most PROPER Way that the Sacred Holy Beings Blessed us with. The ONLY Ones that can Ask for Permission would be our Hataaliis & our Dine’ Herbalists. But Here Goes Resources & Development Committee Chairman Rickie Nez saying He Totally Understands what is Being Asked and Nez wants Law & Order Committee Chairwoman Eugenia Charles-Newton to withdraw her Motion for the Ohio U. Botanist to get Advice from Navajo Nation Department of Fish & Wildlife, Dine’ College, Hataalii Association, etc before Naabik’iati Committee Gives Dine’ Name to a NEW PLANT SPEICIES. RDC Chairman Rickie Nez says It’s an Honor for the COUNCIL to Give a NEW PLANT SPECIES a Dine’ Name. GOOD GRIEF, Richie Nez, the Giving of a Dine’ Name to a Plant must be done in a SACRED WAY. SMH to Eugenia Charles-Newton for also SPONSORING this Request without KNOWING that HATAALIIS MUST BE CONSULTED regarding the Giving of a Dine’ Name to a Plant. Charles-Newton said there is no Navajo Government Process for the Giving of a Dine’ Name to a Plant. She also admitted that like Rickie Nez, she Immediately Thought it was an Honor for a Plant to be Given a Dine’ Name instead of KNOWING that One DOES NOT TOSS AROUND the Language of our Sacred Holy Beings. I’m also Concerned about Charles-Newton Push to have a Fourth Branch of the Navajo Government that would be made up of Veterans. Her proposal for a Fourth Branch of the Navajo Government MUST GO BEFORE HATAALIIS..
It is now 11:04 am, 10.13.21. Naabik’iyati Committee votes 17 in favor, zero opposed to adopt Agenda, after adding Report regarding Progress of Broadband on the Navajo Nation and a Report from Source Global.
