NAVAJO COUNCIL RESOURCES AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE DEBATING RDC’S ACTIONS IN DECEMBER 2013 THAT CREATED CONTROVERSIAL SUBCOMMITTEE OF TWO MEMBERS, RDC MEMBERS DELEGATES LEONARD TSOSIE AND LEONARD PETE, TO DRAFT AGREEMENT BETWEEN NAVAJO NATION AND HRI FOR HRI TO CONSTRUCT AND OPERATE IN-SITU URANIUM MINING DEMONSTRATION PROJECT NEAR CHURCH ROCK, NM.
DELEGATE LEONARD TSOSIE
I ask for Tabling for two weeks. And after we vote to table, I’ll send invitation to all delegates to attend. We are trying best to do with little subcommittee. we went through process. i regret doing to Chilchinbeto for RDC meeting in December 2013. But the RDC meeting at Chilchinbeto was well advertised.
SECOND by DELEGATE LEONARD PETE
DELEGATE GEORGE APACHITO
I oppose Tabling. This issue is about working towards an agreement for HRI to do uranium mining. and it’s uranium mining even if it’s called a demonstration project. and even though this uranium mining is not on Navajo land, it is too close to Navajo land.
VOTE ON TABLING
3 in favor, 2 opposed
three RDC members in favor are RDC CHAIRPERSON KATHERINE BENALLY, DELEGATES LEONARD TSOSIE AND LEONARD PETE
tWO opposing are DELEGATES GEORGE APACHITO AND DAVID TOM
RDC VICE CHAIRPERSON DELEGATE ROSCOE SMITH SERVED AS RDC CHAIRPERSON PRO TEMP DURING DEBATE OVER LEGISLATION 0104-14, WHICH WAS TO RESCIND RDC’S DECEMBER 2013 ACTIONS.
