HERE AT NAABI COMMITTEE WHERE COMMITTEE DEBATING LEGISLATION 0082-14: FEDERAL FUNDING FOR NEW GALLUP, NM, INDIAN MEDICAL CENTER.
DELEGATE EDMUND YAZZIE
Yes, we are giving Gallup tons of money. but where are we going to. i’ve seen Delegate Pete at Gallup Cracker Barrel. i don’t like going to gallup but we have to buy supplies. there’s Albuquerque and Farmington but Gallup most favorite. I ask you to think when navajo person calls 911 that they are not thinking Oh no, I’m being taken to Gallup when all the millionaries live.
And regarding Delegate Phelps’ concern if Gallup hospital contruction ready, i believe that we need to be ready. upon approval of this, it will get us prepared. This is a “we” effort, not an “i” effort.
DELEGATE RUSSELL BEGAYE
Amendment to put hospital on Indian land/Navajo land because it will build up economy and infrastructure follows which means putting our pple to work.
AMENDMENT: LINE 20, DELETE THE PERIOD AFTER “SERVICES” AND ADD NEW WORDING “AND THAT THE FACILITIES BE BUILT ON INDIAN LAND NEAR THE CITY OF GALLUP.”
DELEGATE JONATHAN NEZ
one of things seeing in this is priority list and kayenta was at highest priority. if budget goes thru congress with recommendation from prez obama then kayenta health facility will be funded and next one is dilkon. and so are we asking for construction money this year or 2016 funding? so what year?
DELEGATE NELSON BEGAYE
just comment that wording not offend our neighbors, Pueblo of Zuni.
DELEGATE DUANE TSINIGINE
With in-patient facilities priority listing, it wud mean that Gallup hospital would be #15. is that so? asking cuz Boadaway Gallup is also national priority but I don’t want to jeopardize and been gruling 15 years for us to move up at turtle pace.
DELEGATE ROSCOE SMITH
I think wat amendment is on floor will be taken same way – confusion. when congress gets 0082-14, congress will ask what Navajo Nation wants. are we saying that this is Navajo Nation’s #1 priority?
DELEGATE JONATHAN HALE
since being on native soil and regarding what eastern navajo land commission doing with fort wingate land and zuni. gallup steering committee comes to Health, Education and Human Services Committee and wanted be priority but we received info that committee needs to respect priority listing for health facilities. And then we learned that there wud be $1 million payment to Menapace family to have new Gallup hospital built. why are we going to do that? so we thot, why not build new hospital on fort Wingate land which is right off interstate and that is recommendation and that is what Delegate Russell Begaye talking about with his amendment.
