HERE AT NAVAJO COUNCIL WHERE DEBATE CONTINUES ON LEGISLATION 0367-13, WHICH IS RELATED TO BHP COAL MINE PURCHASE.
DELEGATE MEL BEGAY
I support acquisition of BHP coal mine by NTEC/Navajo Transitional Energy Company because involves young educated pple to get a handle on our destiny which involves “large magnitude.”
How is Bond covered was answered by NTEC saying that money wud come from revenues generated from coal mine. So how does that impact annual revenues that go into tribal treasury from coal mine. Provide to Council.
DELEGATE LEONARD PETE
wen it came before Resources & Development Committee, there were questions that were never answered. We are trying to push thru by Xmas. I don’t like this.
DELEGATE LEONARD TSOSIE
Delegate BAtes said this happened recently but advice of forefathers was that if so important to people that it shud be done with time. I wonder why Office of Surface Mining requiring this. Were there comparisons of how OSM applies reclamation and performance insurance and bond.
And now there is question over majority vote and super majority vote.
And scare tactic over projected revenues. But most of money goes into Trust funds.
Navajo pple need to be educated about shortfall and Navajo pple need to commit to spend money off reservation and that we begin to work together. We need to work with pple cuz they have ownership in this.
